UCLA 2020年度CSST项目

 

项目介绍

CSST 暑期项目是加州大学洛杉矶分校 (UCLA) 提供的为期 10 周的科研强化训练和博士招募项目。每位项目参与者将参加 12 个unit的课程,并在UCLA的老师指导下进行研究。此外,项目学生还需要参加校方组织的职业发展和交流活动。UCLA将评估项目参与者的研究潜力。评估结果将在博士录取时作为参考。约90%的CSST项目参与者来自生物医学、生命科学、物理和工程专业(STEM专业:科学、技术、工程和数学)。但项目也欢迎地质学、社会学、政治学、城市规划学、经济学等非STEM专业的学生参加。

 

CSST 暑期项目的具体目标是:

  • 开发学生的研究潜力;
  • 促进跨学科的互动和研究;
  • 创造同行业者交流的机会;
  • 招募世界顶尖的学生参加UCLA的博士课程 。

 

时间表(暂定)

六月初至九月中旬 项目
7月第一周 项目开始:抵达、入住
第一周 入学教育, 实验室安全教育, 到相应部门报到
第二周 研讨会:项目计划介绍
第三至八周 CSST研讨会、讲座及其他活动
第九周 研讨会:项目成果交流
第十周 CSST项目最终展示
9月第二周 项目结束,离开

 

学生选拔

符合以下申请要求的200名学生将有机会参加面试。最终将录取约90人。

  • 对UCLA的博士项目有浓厚兴趣;
  • 有突出的学术成果;
  • 有丰富的研究经验;
  • 有一定的英语水平 (TOEFL 79; IELTS 6.5);
  • 有意参与跨学科研究;
  • 拥有相对成熟、独立的个性

  1. 英语水平证书

申请时可以不提供英语水平证书,但学生必须在2020年3月1日前向UCLA提供TOEFL 79或 IELTS 6.5证书。如无法在规定时间提供证书,将无法参加该项目。不接受特殊情况。同时,面试时将考察英语能力。

项目进度

10月下旬至11月

提交在线申请  CSST online application. 缴纳120美元的申请费(不可退还)

12月初          CSST 宣布第一轮初选结果及面试名单

12月中下旬  UCLA将组织现场面试

2020年1月  公布最终录取名单

1月下旬        录取学生提交导师选择名单

2月至6月    导师匹配。学生与导师联系做项目准备

7月第一周    项目开始

 

项目支出

CSST项目学生免交学费。项目预估支出为5797美元。最终价格将于2020年5月确定。

住在校内将有助于学生之间沟通和互动,促进跨学科交流。因此UCLA规定,学生必须住在校内宿舍(3人间)。UCLA将指定床位,不接受特殊情况。住宿费用包含餐费(11-15/周)。

 

在校学习

项目学生需要跟随自己的导师完成四个unit的独立学习(课程代号199或197)。此外,将与UCLA的孙仁教授一起完成8个unit的学术研讨(课程代号M Pharm 194)。课程成绩将综合研究成果、出席情况及个人表现。

 

其他

我们鼓励学生尽早参加GRE考试。虽然 GRE 分数不是CSST项目的必须要求,但它将影响UCLA博士项目的录取。此外,如果第一次考试结果不理想,可以重考。

加州大学伯克利分校HAAS商学院设立学期项目BHGAP(The UC Berkeley-Haas Global Access Program),学生可在加州大学伯克利分校就读一个学期或者一学年。在学习期间,学生可以从HASS商学院选择3门课程和1门伯克利其他学院课程,在学期期间,学生在学习各领域先进知识的同时,充分体验美国文化,并提高学生的英语能力与技巧。BHGAP为参加项目的学生提供学术指导、职业规划,和社交活动三方面的有力支持。

Student Visa Applications

Once students have been admitted and their Certification of Financial Responsibility has been completed, we will issue their DS2019 (J-1 immigration status document). Students will then be able to book a visa appointment with their respective embassy to apply for a J-1 visa.

The home university nominates all students for exchange at UConn. Nominations should be sent toIncoming_Exchange@uconn.edu
The UConn Education Abroad Office will then invite nominated students to apply via our online application system. Students must complete the online application process by the due date to confirm their participation in the exchange program. The UConn Education Abroad Office will send an acceptance letter though email to all accepted students once they have completed the application process.

2. ACCOMMODATION:

Most UConn students live on-campus.
On-campus housing is guaranteed for all exchange students that complete the online housing application by the due date.
Students will have access to the online housing application after they have been formally accepted to the exchange program.
Housing assignments will be made by Residential Life prior to the start of the semester. Single rooms are limited and most students have a roommate.
