The Hochschule Konstanz University of Applied Sciences (HTWG) is located in the southernmost part of the Federal Republic of Germany, in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The HTWG campus is situated on the Rhine River, close to Konstanz’s historical city center. HTWG originated from the Higher Technical Institute for Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering, which was founded in 1906 through a private initiative.

Today, the Hochschule Konstanz University of Applied Sciences offers career-oriented higher education at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels in 20 technical and professional fields including Engineering, Architecture, Computer Science, Business Administration and the highly competitive fields of Applied Communication and Culture, Management and Technology, and Communications Design.

All Bachelor’s Degree courses at HTWG require one internship semester in industry which is closely integrated into the curriculum. In addition, 13 Master’s Degree programs offer course opportunities at the post-graduate level.

Currently HTWG has formal partnerships and student and staff exchange programs with 56 higher education institutions in 28 countries. Students from either side of an exchange can spend a semester or more at the partner institution taking classes or completing an internship.

Full time load: 20-30 ECTS

1 Credit = 1-2 class hours
1 Course = 2-8 credits

Minimum course enrollment for exchange students: 3 courses
Maximum course enrollment for exchange students: 30 credits (around 10 courses)

In order to apply to HTWG as an inbound exchange student, students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University must submit the following documents to the International Office of their home university:
• International Exchange Student Application Form
• Student residence hall application
• Copy of passport
• Financial proof for the whole academic period at HTWG (minimum: € 670 per month)
• Curriculum Vitae (CV) / resume
• Academic transcript and list of current coursework
• Letter of interest
• 2 passport pictures
• German language certificate (indicating the student’s German language level ) if necessary for the study abroad period

German health insurance obligatory for all students (we will help students to purchase a German health insurance during the Orientation Program)


On – Campus accommodation is guaranteed, 250-350 Euro per month
Off- Campus : 300-400 Euro per month

Residence hall registration: 50 Euro (one time fee)

Refundable deposit for housing: 500 Euro
Total: 680-780 Euro per month + 282 Euro for one time fees


Students should apply for a “(national) visa for longer stays” according to “Art. 18 Schengener Durchführungsabkommen”
Students who need a student visa for Germany receive the following documents from HTWG´s International Office for the visa application:
• Formal invitation letter
• Admission to HTWG
• A statement exempting you from the prerequisite German language certificate, if necessary.
